double paged spread draft
The Birmingham bound
indie beauty, Leila, who is signed to XL Recordings, is under way of releasing
her new album. We have many questions to ask, of course. Such as, how does she
feel about being one of the few artists that have managed to survive the heat
of the media, like the back lash from a music video, a tweet, and the event
with pop singer, Miley Cyrus.
So we met up with her
in a beautiful place, Café La Rogue, to talk about how things are coming along
for her. When talking about her new album, she spoke "I've always had a
strong passion for music. Not just the process of making that one idea into
something beautiful, but also the performing, connecting with people. There is
a huge difference between the people who don't write their songs and do it for
money, and those who do it for sheer love and passion". Leila started
playing guitar aged 8, being 17 now, and has always played gigs here and there.
"It's how you start, you have to make your way up to really get what you
want. You start playing covers that people enjoy, and then you start making it
your own"
The new album, RBF,
which is due March 31st, will feature chart topping songs such as
"Cliche" and "12 Years". "These songs, they definitely
come from the heart. I mean, as much as the High Speed EP was a success, a lot
of it came from my mind and inspirations, rather than my heart and experiences.
It’s why this album means so much to me, and I’m hoping it'll mean just as much
to someone else" She described the album as being her version of an
autobiography, “I write about my reality, the reality, I won’t sit there and
talk about fantasy love and fairy tales that seems to be all over the chart
these days, I want to write about things people can relate to” That is what
most of the fans of Leila adore about her, the fact she writes music that’s so
true and real, I emotionally connects with her fans, you can really feel the
passion in her music.
“Despite what the
media are saying at the moment, I’m not a b*tch, I may b*tch, but that doesn’t
make me one. People need to realise that being sweet and lovely to everyone
isn’t me, I’m going to keep it real, you have to be honest and independent in
this industry” This was her response to the recent accusations that she lashed
out about child star, Miley Cyrus.
“Eveyrhting
just feels….out of control! I have my album coming out, my tour dates are being
released, I’m playing at reading festival before Noel Gallagher! It’s the
highlight of my year and it hasn’t even happened yet, it’s honestly a dream
come true”
